Adams Morgan Day Celebration

Description: Always the 2nd Sunday in September, discerning travelers and city-dwellers alike will flock to this 32nd annual popular cultural festival, based on Adams Morgan's international character and famous murals. This unique event is considered both hip for the young and fun for families. Hear great live music and sample international food from around the world. Enjoy fall fun, sidewalk cafes, colorful vendors, and cultural demonstrations and dances. The expanded Kid's Fair has games, interactive science exhibits, and face painting. Explore international cultures - away from the Mall and stadiums - in the context of this ethnic and eclectic neighborhood. 'Arts on Belmont' showcases original artisans. Adams Morgan Day has something for everyone!

National Book Festival

Description: The National Book Festival, an annual event held each September on the National Mall in Washington, DC, is a celebration of the joy of books and reading is sponsored by the Library of Congress and gives attendees the opportunity to visit with more than 70 award-winning authors, illustrators and poets who will talk about and sign their books. Marine Corps Marathon

October 31-October, 2010
Description: The 26 mile, 385 yard, USATF certified course is relatively flat, winding through Arlington, Georgetown and the District of Columbia. Passing many of the area's attractions, including the Capitol, Union Station, the Jefferson, Lincoln and FDR Memorials, the Pentagon, the Smithsonian Museums and the Kennedy Center, it is truly a beautiful course that has been aptly nicknamed the "Marathon of the Monuments".
Location: Starts and finishes at the Iwo Jima Monument, down the hill from the Marine Corps War Memorial
Time: The Marine Corps Marathon will begin at 7:50 am with the wheelchair and hand cycle participants. Runners will start at 8:00 am and the MCM10K will kick off at 8:20 am.
Admission: Registration is sold out.

National Christmas Tree Lighting & Holidays on the Ellipse

Description: The National Christmas Tree and the Pathway of Peace is illuminated each evening from dusk until 11 p.m. through January 1st. Seasonal displays include a Yule log, a large-scale model train and a Christmas manger. Musical performances by volunteer choirs and dancers, will be held nightly on the Ellipse stage. Weeknight performances will be performed from 6-8:30 p.m. Weekend performances will be performed from 4-8:30 p.m. For further information or scheduled groups performing call (202) 208-1631. The seasonal display includes Santa's Workshop, which will be open at select times so that children can visit with Santa. Tickets are only required for the lighting ceremony.
Location: The Ellipse near The White House. The closest Metro stations to the White House are Federal Triangle, Metro Center and McPherson Square. Parking is very limited in this area, so public transportation is recommended.
